The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office has been honored with a number of awards since Bill became your County Attorney. The National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Awards is a nationwide program designed to recognize county governments for innovative community programs. Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery’s office has been awarded 12 such awards in the past 6 years including:
Friday Night Football Patrol
This annual program runs through the regular high school football season, August through October. MCAO volunteers staff and a booth at ten different high school football games over the season. MCAO staff volunteers have students sign teen drug-free pledges. The program is now in its 6th year signing up high school students to pledge to be drug and alcohol free and not abuse prescription drugs. As of last year, over 10,000 students had signed the pledge.
Safe Kids Summer
The Safe Kids Summer awareness program was created to reach a large number of school-age children to increase safety awareness in the pool, at home, at school and online.
“Don’t Leave Me Behind” Vehicular Heatstroke Campaign
Vehicular heatstroke is the number one cause of death in non-collision fatalities for children 14 and younger. News headlines across Maricopa County too often tell the story of young children and pets left in hot cars, often resulting in death or serious injury. These deaths are entirely preventable and this campaign was designed to help get the word out about not leaving a loved one or beloved pet behind in a vehicle for even a brief period of time. MCAO created a multi-pronged awareness campaign to educate and inform residents.
